about

Feels Like The Third Time was Freakwater’s first record for Thrill Jockey and was recorded with Brad Wood at the now infamous (and closed) Idful Studios. The record opens with ”My Old Drunk Friend”, perhaps the greatest song Hank Williams never wrote and features seven originals and five covers of songs by the likes of Conway Twitty, Woody Guthrie and Nick Lowe. The back cover features a classic photo of the band in front of Alcala’s Western Wear on Chicago Ave in Chicago. This is the record that solidified Freakwater as an up and coming voice in the world of country music, as well as being one of the records that helped kick start the whole No Depression/Americana craze.

From Thrill Jockey's 1994 mailorder catalog : “Knockin on the Carter family coffin, these Louisville sirens make us weep with joy.”
